自從2002年以來德國派遣第一艘軍艦進行南海航行 / Photo DPA, South China Morning Post
德國在週一時派遣一艘海軍軍艦前往南海，表達不接受中國領土擴張事實，此為近20年來首次罕見舉動。
德國以具體行動參與其他西方國家行列，以表達反對中國擴大其在該地區的軍事存在，今日特別派遣軍艦穿越南海，將在國際共同商業貿易航線上航行以宣示貿易主權，該艘護衛艦預計不會穿越台灣海峽。
柏林方面已明確表達，此次軍艦航行目標是在於表達德國不接受中國的領土主張的事實尤其是南海區域，德國國防部長卡倫鮑爾(Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer)親自前往威廉港為拜仁號護衛艦 (Bayern) 送行，拜仁號預計將於12月中穿越南海，途徑日本、越南、澳大利亞、韓國等區域，預計將進行為期七個月的航行，此為自從2002年以來，第一艘航行該地區的德國軍艦。
